Why Kweku Flick No Longer Charges for Features

Ghanaian rapper and singer Kweku Flick has opened up about his decision to stop charging fellow artistes for features, explaining that his shift in mindset came from valuing collaboration over money.

Speaking in an interview with Opemsuo Radio’s Mac de President on Oseikrom Kwanso, the Money hitmaker revealed that he previously demanded payment for features because he was focused on survival and financial needs.

However, he later realised that music thrives on mutual support, and that putting money first could easily block opportunities.

“I used to charge in the past because I was thinking about life, but I later sat down and realised that people need people. I have done many features without charging, even for new artistes.”

According to Kweku Flick, he also considered what might have happened if Sarkodie had charged him during their collaboration on Messiah.

That thought, he said, made him appreciate the importance of helping others without expecting financial returns.

He explained that most of his recent collaborations have been done freely, even for upcoming artistes. His only condition is whether the song itself carries the right spark.

If a track inspires him, he records his verse and sends it over without delay, but if he feels the song lacks “fire,” he is honest enough to say so.

“If the song touches me, I will just record the verse, sometimes even earlier than expected, and send it to the manager. If the song doesn’t have fire, I will let you know.”

Reflecting on his work with Sarkodie, Kweku Flick noted that both of their songs—Messiah and Fire—were powerful projects, but the first collaboration helped create the right platform for the second.

In his words, Messiah “threw a certain light” that made the release of Fire easier and more impactful.

Kweku Flick is out with a fresh release, Sikasem.
