Sports Minister Responds to Reports of Thomas Partey’s Alleged Canada Visa Setback

Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, has dismissed reports suggesting Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey has been denied a visa to enter Canada ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speculation emerged in recent days that the Arsenal midfielder could face travel complications linked to his ongoing court case, raising concerns over his availability for Ghana’s opening match of the tournament.

However, the Sports Minister insists he has not received any information to support those claims and believes the reports are unfounded.

Speaking on PM Express on Joy News, Adams stated that any such development would have been formally communicated to the relevant authorities.

“I’m not aware Thomas Partey has been denied Canada visa. If such thing had happened, they would have informed me. I know he had visa challenges in the past but those were resolved. The players are all ready for the game,” he said.

The comments come as the Black Stars continue preparations in the United States after arriving in Rhode Island for the final phase of their World Cup build-up.

Partey remains a vital member of Carlos Queiroz’s squad and is expected to play a key role as Ghana seek to make a strong impression at the tournament.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. Ghana will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field in Toronto before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
