Samba O’Neil: Kotoko’s Only Player in GPL Team of 2025/26 Season
When former Black Stars and AshantiGold SC goalkeeper Fatau Dauda unveiled his 2025/26 Ghana Premier League Team of the Season, Asante Kotoko fans were left disappointed.
The Porcupine Warriors had just one representative, defender and captain Samba O’Neil, who earned his spot through consistent leadership and strong performances in central defense and midfield.
Champions Medeama SC dominated the selection with three players: Fatawu Sulemana, Fuzy Taylor, and the impressive Salim Adams (a strong MVP candidate with 11 goals).
Other notable inclusions included the league’s top scorer Samuel Attah Kumi (18 goals), Richmond Opoku, Kelvin Osei Asibey (Hearts of Oak), and standouts like Etse Dogli, Ebenezer Adade, and Prince Tweneboah. For a giant like Kotoko, this minimal representation highlighted areas needing urgent improvement.
Looking ahead, the club is expected to strengthen its squad in the upcoming transfer window, aiming to bounce back stronger next season and restore its proud tradition of producing multiple Team of the Season stars.
