Second Gov’t-IMF Engagement Underway

The second engagement between the government of Ghana and officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a supported programme is currently underway in the country.

The team first came for discussions with the Bank of Ghana and the Ministry of Finance in July 2022.

The current discussions began on September 26, 2022, with the two key stakeholders.

“A key pre-requisite for a programme is confirmation that Ghana’s debt is on a sustainable path; this will require a comprehensive Debt Sustainable Analysis which is currently ongoing”, a statement from the Ministry of Finance said.

It disclosed the government has put together a post covid economic programme which will form the basis for the negotiation with the Fund.

It added that it was optimistic about making progress this time around in the discussions.
