President Mahama Arrives in Belarus on State Visit

President John Dramani Mahama has begun a State Visit to the Republic of Belarus at the invitation of President Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko.
Both leaders are set to deepen diplomatic relations and explore new frontiers in economic, agricultural and technical cooperation.
Upon arrival in Minsk, President Mahama laid a wreath at the Victory Monument in honour of Soviet Army soldiers and Belarusian partisans who displayed immense bravery during World War II.
The symbolic gesture sets the tone for engagements that will focus on both historical ties and future partnerships.
A central highlight of the visit will be high-level talks between the two Heads of State.
President Mahama and President Lukashenko will hold private bilateral discussions before proceeding to an expanded diplomatic session with ministers and senior officials from both governments.
Discussions are expected to centre on strategic partnerships in agriculture, education and commerce, areas identified as key to deepening mutual growth.
In line with President Mahama’s industrialisation and food security agenda, the President will travel to Brest, one of Belarus’ most historic western cities.
There he will tour one of the region’s largest processors of milk, cheese and baby products.
The visit is expected to facilitate knowledge sharing and open opportunities for collaboration in agro-processing, a sector Ghana is keen to develop to reduce post-harvest losses and add value to local produce.
While in Brest, President Mahama will also pay respects at the Brest Hero Fortress Memorial Complex, the site of the 1941 Soviet defence against Nazi forces.
The itinerary further includes a visit to Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Europe’s last remaining primaeval forests.
The stop underscores the commitment of both Ghana and Belarus to environmental conservation and sustainable management of natural resources.
The State Visit will culminate in the signing of at least four landmark bilateral agreements designed to foster institutional collaboration and unlock new avenues for trade and investment between Accra and Minsk.
President Mahama is expected to conclude the visit and return to Accra on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
