Police Arrest 6 Security Guards, Retrieve 5 Pump-Action Guns Over Adwoa Safo Shooting

The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards and retrieved multiple firearms following a shooting incident involving former MP Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo at Kwabenya on June 21, 2026.
Police said personnel from the National Operations Directorate and Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, responded to a distress call from a residence in Kwabenya.
Preliminary investigations showed that a ceremony was being held at the residence of Mr Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat, alias Akofena, when Hon. Adwoa Safo arrived and requested entry but was denied access.
Police investigations further revealed that armed security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident.
Hon. Adwoa Safo sustained injuries, and her vehicle was found with multiple gunshot marks.
A subsequent search led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.
The six suspects and all exhibits have been transferred to Police Headquarters to assist ongoing investigations.
Police said efforts are underway to locate and arrest any other persons connected with the incident.
