NPP Stabbing: Ken Agyapong Withdraws from NPP Thank You Tour

Former Member of Parliament from Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has announced his withdrawal from the ongoing Thank You tour of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

It comes after a student was stabbed yesterday at Bantama in the Ashanti Region.

At a presser on April 30, 2025, he said the decision had become imperative as he was unwilling to risk the lives of any more of his followers.

“I cannot protect my followers because some members of the party are against the decision to have other presidential candidates join the tour. People in my branded T-shirts are targeted at the tour. This doesn’t bring unity.”

“For the sake of unity and peace, I am withdrawing to focus on the child who has been stabbed…The reason I am withdrawing is that I cannot compromise the security and safety of my supporters. I feel we have to stay away and let Dr Bawimia continue his tour. That will help.”

He recognizes that some party folks have taken advantage of the tour to vilify him and attack his supporters.

The tour of the NPP since its inception has been dramatic as it has been characterized by a series of confrontations and violence.

On Tuesday night at the Bantama Pentecost Church, reports say that a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a member of the Jama Group from Unity Hall was stabbed.

The Jama group had been hired by the former Assin Central Member of Parliament.

According to the former lawmaker, his friend dashed GHc1000 to the group after their performance. However, the money was snatched away by a group of bodily-built, gun-wielding men- providing security at the event.

This resulted in violence leading to the firing of guns and the stabbing of the victim.

A formal complaint has since been filed while the victim is receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Kennedy Agyapong is now seeking justice for the victim.

“I want justice for the gentleman. Else it will be a bad signal to my followers. I’m going to follow the matter.”
