NPA Cautions Fuel Dealers and Tanker Drivers Against Illicit Petroleum Activities

The National Petroleum Authority, NPA, has urged retail outlet operators and bulk road vehicle drivers to strictly adhere to regulatory requirements to ensure order and quality in the country’s downstream petroleum industry.

Speaking at a workshop for industry players, the Director of Business Development at the NPA, Mr Godwin Yaw Konu, warned that practices such as sourcing fuel from unauthorised sources, operating without the required regulatory documentation, and fuel siphoning not only compromise fuel quality but also damage the corporate reputation of dealers.

He said the NPA will not hesitate to sanction and prosecute offending Petroleum Service Providers (PSPs) and their agents found engaging in illicit petroleum activities.

According to him, compliance is critical to protecting consumers, maintaining industry standards, and preserving public trust in the sector.

The workshop was organised to educate fuel dealers and tanker drivers on the NPA’s compliance regime.

It also provided a platform for participants to share their operational challenges and for the Authority to initiate measures aimed at improving service delivery across the downstream value chain.

Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service, GNFS, and the National Road Safety Authority, NRSA, also took part in the training.

The GNFS provided fire safety tips and conducted firefighting drills, while the NRSA encouraged tanker drivers to respect other road users and adopt defensive driving techniques to reduce accidents on the roads.

The NPA reiterated its commitment to working with all stakeholders to promote safety, transparency, and professionalism in the distribution and retail of petroleum products nationwide.
