Next Akwasidae to be Held in Washington, D.C. – Manhyia Palace

The Manhyia Palace has announced that the next Akwasidae Festival will be held outside Ghana, in Washington, D.C., United States of America.

Asanteman, led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, will converge in the U.S. capital for the celebration.

The announcement was made at the fifth Akwasidae festival of the year held at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

Announcing the news to a gathering of chiefs, government officials, and subjects, Otumfuo Kyeame Baffour Kantankrankyi invited all Nananom to join the Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, as well as Asantes living abroad, to observe the festival.

“All traditional authorities with visas may join the event in the US,” he said, drawing applause from the durbar.

The next Akwasidae will fall on Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Akwasidae is observed every 42 days and is one of the most important traditional festivals in Asanteman used to honour the ancestors and reaffirm allegiance to the Golden Stool.

Holding the festival in Washington, D.C. is expected to bring together the large Ghanaian and Asante diaspora community in North America.

It also forms part of efforts to strengthen cultural ties between Asanteman and its people abroad.
