Mahama Returns from UK, Belarus
President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana after official visits to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Belarus.
He arrived on June 9, 2026.
He was received at the Jubilee Lounge by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah, and senior government officials upon arrival.
President Mahama left the country on May 31, 2026.
In the UK, the President attended the Ghana Investment Summit, which brought together investors from across Europe, noting growing interest in Ghana driven by improved economic performance and a strengthened investment climate.
He also announced the signing of the Ghana–UK Growth and Investment Partnership, aimed at shifting relations from dependency to trade and investment.
Key agreements include the development of a commercial-scale ship repair facility in Takoradi, commercial afforestation in the Oti Region, collaboration on Artificial Intelligence training under Ghana’s “AI for Good” strategy, and capacity building for clinical and biomedical engineers to support healthcare systems.
President Mahama also held bilateral talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on political, economic, and Sahel security issues, and met King Charles III. He visited Ghanaian businesses in the UK and was honoured at the London Stock Exchange for Ghana’s strong market performance.
He left London on June 3 and headed for Belarus.
In Belarus, the President secured agreements establishing a Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, strengthening Chambers of Commerce collaboration, and enhancing agricultural cooperation.
He also announced a visa waiver agreement and plans for Belarusian technical support to boost agricultural productivity in Ghana.
