Komfo Anokye Doctors Suspend Strike After Otumfuo’s Intervention

The industrial action by doctors at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has been suspended with immediate effect from 6:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

The Komfo Anokye Doctors’ Association (KADA) announced the suspension following what it described as “fruitful engagements” and the timely intervention of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Hospital Board, Management, and other key stakeholders.

In a statement, KADA said while it remains committed to ensuring all issues that triggered the strike are fully resolved, the safety and well-being of patients and broader public health concerns informed the decision to call off the action.

“The safety and well-being of patients and the broader public interest remain central to our responsibilities, and these have informed our decision to suspend the action and continue the dialogue,” the Association stated.

KADA expressed profound gratitude to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Board, and Management for facilitating dialogue and committing to address the outstanding concerns.

The Association also thanked the National Executive Council and membership of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) for their “unwavering support and intervention.”

It further acknowledged solidarity from several health groups, including GRNMA, EmSOG, OAG, HSWU, KACRA, GAMLS Kath Chapter, and KAPA, as well as all doctors and health workers who supported the action.

The Association embarked on an industrial action on June 7, 2026, in response to the suspension of the CEO of the hospital over his decision to halt admission at the Accident and Emergency Centre for 24 hours due to congestion.
