Kumawu By-Election: Residents Threaten to Punish NPP for Poor Performance, Deceit

Residents of Kumawu in the Sekyere Kumawu District, Ashanti Region, have expressed their frustration and dissatisfaction with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate in the ongoing by-election, citing poor performance and deceit as their primary concerns.

According to the residents, the area has been lagging behind in terms of development, with inadequate road networks and a struggling healthcare system, among other issues.

Speaking to Opemsuo News Reporter, Adwoa Serwaa Yonkodo, who is currently monitoring the by-election, residents expressed their disappointment in the lack of significant development in Kumawu, despite the constituency being a stronghold of the ruling NPP.

Their discontent also stems from their perception that the government’s recent road construction projects in the Kumawu constituency are merely attempts to buy votes in a desperate bid to retain the seat.

For the past decade, the residents have been longing for properly paved roads, but their pleas have gone unanswered. However, they were surprised to witness the mobilisation of resources for road construction in Kumawu following the death of their former Parliamentarian, Hon Philip Atta Basoa.

“We’ve been begging for better roads for years, but it’s only now, during the by-election, that they decide to take action. It’s nothing but a ploy to win votes,” stated a resident.

In response to what they perceive as deception, the residents have threatened to vote against the NPP candidate in the ongoing by-election.

As the by-election unfolds, it remains to be seen how the residents’ grievances will impact the outcome and the political landscape in Kumawu.
