Kumasi Traditional Council Receives Status Report on Pending Disputes

The Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC) has received a comprehensive status update on the various cases currently pending before it.

The briefing, by Kwame Adusei Esq., Registrar of the Council, covered matters under investigation by committees, cases being handled by the various divisions, and disputes yet to be formally brought before the Council.

The meeting was held on 7 May 2026 and was presided over by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Over 30 Committee Cases
The update included more than 30 land and chieftaincy disputes before various committees.

Several of these have been concluded and are ready for submission to the Council for final determination.

Among the finalised cases are the stool affairs of Twewobaabi, Atwima Bawku, Kenkyire, Penteng, Brodi, and Asante Akyem Hwediem.

Also listed as concluded were the Aduapokyere stool affairs, Dedesua and Sepaase land disputes, as well as the stool affairs of Krapa, Derma, Pankrono, and others.

Pending Cases
For matters yet to be finalised, the Registrar cited Amakom, Asonomaso, Akrafufuo, Nkwanta Akrofrom, the Biyaa land dispute, and Abrepokese.

Ongoing investigations include the Ohenediem dispute, Daaban Akyease, as well as cases involving Atwima Bawku and Kenkyire, among others.

Other Outstanding Disputes
The update also highlighted cases that have not yet been referred to any committee. Prominent among these are issues relating to Bonwire and Wirempe.

Great Oath Cases
The Registrar further briefed the Council on cases involving the invocation of the Great Oath across the various divisions.

These include Mamponten, Asaaman, Taahyen, Kenyaase, Atwima Agogo, Amenaa, and Hwebaa.

Otumfuo’s Directive
Following the briefing, Otumfuo directed traditional authorities whose cases were not captured in the report to meet with the Registrar for proper documentation.

His Majesty stressed that matters involving the invocation of the Great Oath must be addressed without delay.

Five such cases were thus earmarked for review at the Council’s next sitting.

The divisions before which these cases are pending have been instructed to prepare and present them when the Council reconvenes on May 18, 2026.
