KNUST Advises Staff and Students to Avoid Travel to South Africa

Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has advised all staff and students to avoid travel to the Republic of South Africa until further notice due to ongoing demonstrations targeting foreigners.
In a General Notice issued on Monday, the University said it has been monitoring recent developments in South Africa where protests have occurred in several parts of the country.
According to KNUST, reports indicate that some of the demonstrations have resulted in disruptions to public life and property, as well as incidents of violence, raising concerns about the safety and security of foreign nationals.
In light of these developments, staff and students have been strongly advised to defer any planned travel to South Africa.
Responsible Officers have also been directed to suspend the approval of all official travel to South Africa until further notice.
For members of the University Community who are currently in South Africa, Management is advising extreme caution.
They are to avoid locations of demonstrations and large gatherings, monitor local media, comply with guidance from local authorities and the Ghanaian diplomatic mission, and maintain regular contact with appropriate officials of KNUST.
Members of the Community who are currently in South Africa may call 0322499897 or send an email message to uro@knust.edu.gh in case of emergency.
Management said the advisory will remain in force until the security situation improves, and urged all members of the University community to prioritise their safety and stay informed on developments.
