National Film Authority Opens Film Development Fund for Applications on July 31

The National Film Authority (NFA) will open applications for the Film Development Fund on July 31, 2026, in what industry players are calling a major step toward financing and growing Ghana’s film sector.

Announcing the rollout, the Authority said it will begin a public education drive from today to break down what the Fund is, who qualifies, and how applicants can prepare.

It added that detailed information on eligibility, application requirements, funding categories and timelines will be released ahead of the July 31 opening date.

The Film Development Fund is a financing facility established to develop Ghana’s film industry.

According to the NFA, the Fund is designed to provide access to capital for filmmakers, producers, distributors, exhibitors, content creators and industry entrepreneurs.

The goal is to help stakeholders build more sustainable businesses, create jobs, tell authentic Ghanaian stories, and position the Ghanaian film industry to compete globally.

The Fund is established under Section 29 of the Development and Classification of Film Act, 2016 (Act 935).

The same Act established the National Film Authority.

It also mandates the NFA Board to set the guidelines and criteria for applying to the Fund.
