JUST IN: New Black Stars Coach Carlos Queiroz Announces Debut Squad for Mexico Friendly

Black Stars new coach Carlos Queiroz has announced his maiden squad since taking over the national team, as Ghana prepare for an international friendly against Mexico later this month.

The squad features a blend of European-based players who have been closely monitored by the Portuguese tactician, talents from the Ghana Premier League, and several players from the Ghana U-23 side gearing up for the upcoming Olympic Games qualifiers.

Notable names in the list include Majeed Ashimeru, the return of Felix Afena-Gyan, Ibrahim Osman, as well as the Saint-Etienne duo of Augustine Boakye and Ebenezer Annan.

Exciting young talents plying their trade in Europe have also been rewarded with call-ups. These include FC Nordsjaelland’s teenage-sensation Prince Amoako Jr, Belgian-based Joseph Opoku, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi of Stoke City, and Brazilian-based Francis Amuzu.

Six players from the domestic league made the cut, including goalkeepers Solomon Agbasi and Dreams FC’s Gidios Aseako. The outfield contingent consists of Razak Simpson, Ebenezer Abban, Ebenezer Adade and red-hot Salim Adams.

The established key players of the Black Stars were not invited for this camp, as they are expected to still be with their various European clubs completing the 2025/26 season.

Ghana will face Mexico in the friendly on Friday, May 22, providing Queiroz with an important opportunity to assess his new-look squad as the team builds towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
