Gov’t Forwards 3 Months’ Salaries of Asset Declaration Defaulters to Medical Trust Fund

The government has forwarded three months’ salaries of appointees who failed to meet the initial deadline for asset declaration to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as Mahama Cares.
Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed on May 7, 2026, that the Controller and Accountant-General had already deducted and transferred the monies to the Fund in line with President John Mahama’s directive.
In total, he said GHS 6.1 million had been deducted and transferred to the Fund.
It added that arrangements are currently being made to transfer the final tranche covering the remaining defaulters.
To reinforce compliance with asset declaration requirements under the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, the President ordered that any appointee who defaulted on the first deadline forfeit three months’ salary for onward donation to the Fund.
Meanwhile, the President had pledged to donate six months of his own salary to support the initiative while he encouraged all presidential appointees to contribute one month of their salary each to the Fund.
