GMTF Administrator Satisfied with Pace of KATH Cardiology Centre Construction

The Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, has expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the ultra-modern Cardiology Centre at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
This was during an inspection of the project together with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and a high-powered delegation from the Trust Fund.
The inspection, conducted alongside the management of the hospital, formed part of efforts to monitor the implementation of one of the flagship projects aimed at expanding specialist healthcare services in Ghana.
The delegation toured the construction site, where contractors briefed them on the current stage of work and assured them that the project remains on schedule for completion by the end of August.
Speaking after the inspection, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku commended the contractors for the impressive progress made within a short period.
She described the Cardiology Centre as a transformative investment that will significantly strengthen Ghana’s capacity to diagnose and treat heart diseases, while reducing the burden on patients who often have to seek expensive treatment outside the country.
She reiterated the Ghana Medical Trust Fund’s commitment to supporting interventions that improve access to quality specialist healthcare and expressed confidence that the facility would become a centre of excellence for cardiac care upon its completion.
The Ashanti Regional Minister also praised the speed and quality of construction, describing the progress as encouraging and evidence of the government’s determination to improve healthcare infrastructure across the country.
He noted that the timely completion of the Cardiology Centre would not only benefit residents of the Ashanti Region but also serve patients from across Ghana and the West African sub-region.
Management of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital assured the delegation that all stakeholders are working closely with the contractors to ensure the facility is completed and operational by the projected end-of-August deadline.
When completed, the state-of-the-art Cardiology Centre is expected to significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide advanced cardiac care, improve patient outcomes, reduce referrals abroad, and contribute to the government’s broader agenda of strengthening specialist healthcare delivery in Ghana.
