GIS Trains 40 Officers Ahead of E-Visa Rollout

The Ghana Immigration Service has trained 40 officers ahead of the nationwide rollout of Ghana’s new electronic visa system set to launch on May 25.

The two-day programme brought together personnel from immigration control points across the country to prepare for the fully digital platform.

The e-visa system will allow foreign nationals to apply for and complete visa processes online before travelling to Ghana.

Officials say the system is designed to improve accessibility, speed up passenger processing, and strengthen security controls.

Opening the training, Acting Deputy Comptroller-General of Immigration for Command Post and Operations, Faisal Disu, described the e-visa initiative as “a new way of working, anchored on transparency and accountability.”

He stressed that data protection must remain a core responsibility for officers.

Mr Disu said the platform will generate traveller information critical to national security, economic planning, intelligence cooperation, and international collaboration.

He added that accuracy, security, and responsible use of data are non-negotiable under the system.

“The e-visa platform will serve as the first point of contact between foreign visitors and Ghana. A transparent and user-friendly system, it will enhance Ghana’s image and attract tourism, business and investment,” he said.

He pledged management’s commitment to continuous capacity building, system upgrades, and the provision of operational tools. Integrity and accountability mechanisms, including detailed audit trails, will be closely monitored, with breaches addressed in line with the law and service regulations.

Participants were taken through the e-visa workflow, monitoring procedures, document verification checklists, and online payment processes during the training.
