GHALCA President Claims Ghana Premier League is One of the Best Leagues on the Continent

The President of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Mr. Kofi Ansah, has designated the Ghana Premier League (G.P.L.) as one of the top leagues on the continent.

Mr. John Ansah is serving his first term as the president of the Premier League Clubs Association after comfortably defeating his opponent, Isaac Wilberforce Koomson, by amassing 95 votes on election day.

The president has held various leadership positions within the association, completed three terms as an executive member, and served as vice chairman under Kudjoe Fianoo.

In an interview with Channel One TV, the president of the Ghana League Clubs Association shared his opinion on the new coach for the Black Stars and the inclusion of home-grown players in the final list for the Mundial this summer.

Mr. John Ansah reminisced about the past instances when players from the Ghana Premier League were given a chance to represent the senior national teams, particularly highlighting the historic qualification for the World Cup in 2022.

“If I recall, in 2022, we had a player from Asante Kotoko and a player from Accra Hearts of Oak who were fully local-based players. During the qualification, you realised that there were some who were also given the opportunity leading to the qualification for the 2026 World Cup,” Mr. Ansah indicated.

Mr. Ansah believes that the new coach for the Black Stars might follow a similar approach, but he lacks insight into Carlos Queiroz’s plans and strategies.

He stated, “We have some few months to go to the World Cup; a new coach has been appointed. I don’t know much of his plans, but I’m of the view that he might consider doing the same or doing more.”

Kofi provided a general overview of the Ghana Premier League, ranking it among the continent’s top leagues.

“In the local league, sometimes we complain about not being the best, but if we look around us on this continent, we are among the best, and so I think that there’s more room for improvement.”
