Otumfuo Rules Asantehemaa Nkonson Belongs to Asona Clan

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has ruled that Asantehemaa Nkonson is an entitlement of the Asona Clan.
This ruling brings to an end the contention between the Ekuona led by Opanin Asante Mensah and the Asona led by the Opanin Anto Kusi Agyemang over the stool.
“It’s an Asona stool. Asante Mensah is an Ekuona,”Otumfuo said.
Recounting incidents leading to the establishment of the position for them, Otumfuo said two sisters migrated from Denkyira to Asante and first settled at Etuoto around the Manhyia Palace before moving to Akyeremade and then Yabe.
They played the role of nannies for the Asantehemaa.
In the course of time, Otumfuo said a descendant of one of the two known as Ohenewaa moved from Yabe to Asuofia due to their growing population.
The Asantehemaa at this point directed the then Ohwimhene to apportion a land to her for sustenance. Ohenewaa and her descendants were thus given Akyease where they resided with a deity they brought along from Denkyira.
In the course of time, a sojourner, Frimponmaa of the Ekuona Clan, moved to Akyease to seek the help of the deity to conceive, Otumfuo recounted.
After successfully conceiving and having a male child, she named him Kofi Twumasi Bosie after the deity. The boy grew up serving the deity and was adopted as a member of the family of the owners.
In the process of time, when the stool became vacant, he ascended it.
Otumfuo therefore told Asante Mensah, “You are Ekuona and therefore not a party to the stool.”
