Fire Guts ECG Transformer at New Atonsu Agogo Market

An Electricity Company of Ghana transformer at the New Atonsu Agogo Market caught fire Monday afternoon, June 8, 2026, triggering panic among traders and residents in the area.

The Asokwa Municipal Assembly said the fire was reported around midday, prompting a swift response from personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service.

The Fire Service team arrived on the scene promptly and brought the blaze under control, preventing further damage to nearby structures and electrical installations.

According to the Assembly, the quick intervention of the fire officers ensured the safety of traders and residents around the market.

No casualties were recorded, and the situation was stabilised before the fire could spread beyond the transformer.

The Assembly commended the Ghana National Fire Service for its dedication and swift action in protecting lives and property.

Officials said the incident underscores the need for regular maintenance of electrical infrastructure in busy commercial areas to prevent similar occurrences.
