TOR Currently Refining One Million Barrels of Crude Oil – Energy Minister

The Tema Oil Refinery is currently processing one million barrels of crude oil, Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has announced, as the government pushes to expand local refining capacity and cut fuel imports.

Jinapor disclosed the development while highlighting the delivery of locally produced Jubilee crude oil to Sentuo Oil Refinery.

He said both developments reflect the government’s commitment to add value to Ghana’s natural resources at home, strengthen energy security, and retain more economic benefits within the country.

According to the Minister, the progress builds on President John Dramani Mahama’s plan to deepen local participation and industrial development in the petroleum sector.

He noted that it follows Ghana’s successful supply of domestic crude to a refinery in 2016 and demonstrates continued integration of upstream production with local refining.

Jinapor said Sentuo Oil Refinery had become a key player in Ghana’s downstream petroleum industry.

At the same time, the return of TOR to active refining with one million barrels of crude further enhances the country’s capacity to meet domestic fuel demand.

The Energy Minister described the collaboration between government, industry stakeholders and petroleum partners as evidence of a shared commitment to advancing Ghana’s energy and industrial transformation agenda.
