U/ER: Police Intercept 50,000 Rounds of Illegal Ammunition, Arrest 3 Suspects

The Upper West Regional Police Command has intercepted a large consignment of illegal ammunition being transported through an unapproved route outside Wa, leading to the arrest of three suspects.
In a press release dated July 1, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Regional Police Commander, ACP Mr Peter Kamasa, the Command said officers stopped a commercial vehicle on Monday, June 29, 2026, after intelligence indicated it was moving a large quantity of ammunition.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 200 boxes of AA cartridges, totalling 50,000 rounds, concealed beneath other goods.
Police identified the persons connected to the transportation as Alhassan Issahaku, Iddrisu Mashood, and Alhaji Issahaku.
All three are currently in custody and are assisting with investigations. According to the Command, efforts are ongoing to establish the source of the ammunition and to arrest any other persons who may be involved in the illegal movement.
The Regional Police Command commended the officers involved for their professionalism and integrity during the operation.
It also reassured residents of the Upper West Region of its continued commitment to protecting lives and property, preventing crime, and maintaining a peaceful and secure environment for law-abiding citizens.
The Command is urging members of the public to continue supporting the Police by providing timely and credible information to help combat crime and safeguard communities.
