GMet Forecasts Rains for Southern, Northern Ghana from Thursday Afternoon to Friday Night

The Ghana Meteorological Agency, GMet, has forecast intermittent rains and thunderstorms across parts of the country in its 18-hour impact-based forecast valid from 1200 UTC on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
The forecast, issued by GMet’s Central Analysis and Forecasting Office at 1100 UTC, covers the afternoon of July 2 through the night of July 3.
According to GMet, mostly cloudy weather with brief sunny spells will dominate southern Ghana this afternoon.
Intermittent slight to moderate rains are expected along the coastline, slightly north of the coastline, and in parts of the middle sector from this afternoon into the evening hours.
For Northern Ghana and the transition sector, GMet expects an alternation between sun and clouds in the afternoon.
However, isolated thunderstorms or rain are likely from late afternoon into the night.
The agency’s risk maps show “Low risk” to “Medium risk” rain for areas including Accra, the coastal belt, Ashanti, parts of the Eastern Region, and the Upper East/Northeast areas during the forecast period.
Daytime highs are expected to reach 29°C along the Coast, 30°C in the Forest sector, 31°C in the Transition zone, and 33°C in the Northern sector. Overnight lows will range between 22°C and 24°C nationwide.
GMet’s summary notes read, “Mostly cloudy weather with brief sunny conditions is expected to dominate southern Ghana this afternoon… Over Northern Ghana and the transition sector… isolated thunderstorms or rain expected from late afternoon into the night.”
