Education Minister Tours Selected BECE Centres

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, on Monday visited selected Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) centres in the Sefwi area of the Western North Region to monitor the conduct of the exams and interact with candidates.
The Minister toured Boako M/A JHS, Asawinso Senior High School and Boadi Senior High School as the nationwide BECE began.
Addressing candidates at the centres, Mr Iddrisu described the BECE as a normal test of knowledge acquired over the past nine years of basic education.
He encouraged them to approach the examination with confidence and integrity, stressing that success depends on honesty and preparation.
During the tour, the Minister expressed concern about the condition of some facilities being used as examination centres.
He described them as “not in the best shape” and assured that the government would undertake the necessary renovations to improve them.
“We are committed to improving school infrastructure to ensure all students write their exams in a conducive environment,” Iddrisu said.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to equity in education, noting that learning conditions outside the national capital must meet acceptable standards.
The 2026 BECE is being written by more than 600,000 candidates across the country.
The exam determines placement into senior high schools and technical institutes through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
Officials of the Ghana Education Service and the West African Examinations Council were part of the Minister’s delegation.
