Police Warn Against Ceremonial Live Ammunition Firing
The police in the Greater Accra Region have warned against the firing of live ammunition at traditional ceremonies.
“The Police, in collaboration with the Gbese Mantse, are cautioning all celebrants to strictly refrain from the use of live ammunition during this year’s ceremony,” it announced in a statement.
It comes as the ban on noisemaking in parts of the Ga State gets lifted on June 12, 2025. The police recognize that the lifting of the ban will be celebrated with the firing of musketry.
“It has come to the attention of the Police Command that in recent years, some participants, particularly sections of the youth, have resorted to firing live ammunition instead of using gunpowder or blank rounds.”
It emphasized that individuals found engaging in such acts will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“The Command is working closely with traditional authorities and event organizers to ensure a peaceful and incident-free celebration.”
