Ghana Wins Bid to Host 70th UN Tourism Commission for Africa Meeting in 2027

Ghana has been selected to host the 70th Session of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF) in 2027, a milestone the government says will align with the country’s 70th Independence Anniversary.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, who presented Ghana’s candidacy to members of the Commission during the current session.
The Minister thanked UN Tourism Secretary-General Ms. Shaikha Al Nuwais and Seychelles’ Minister for Tourism and Culture, Ms. Amanda, for their leadership and hospitality.
Describing 2027 as a unique and historic year, the Minister noted that hosting CAF in Ghana would provide a platform to celebrate both Ghana’s seven decades of independence and 70 sessions of the UN Tourism Commission for Africa.
She said the occasion symbolizes Africa’s journey of freedom, resilience, progress and partnership.
Ghana was presented as the gateway to Africa and a nation renowned for warm hospitality, rich cultural heritage, a vibrant creative arts sector, diverse tourism attractions, and a peaceful democratic environment.
The Minister assured delegates that they would experience Ghana’s festivals, music, dance, cuisine,6 traditional craftsmanship, and the stories that have shaped the nation and the continent.
Beyond culture, the Minister said the meeting will bring together policymakers, tourism professionals, investors, creatives and the private sector to reflect on achievements and chart a bold future for tourism development in Africa.
She emphasised that hosting CAF will strengthen collaboration among African Member States and highlight tourism’s role in driving inclusive growth, creating jobs, empowering communities, and preserving cultural heritage.
The Minister also used the opportunity to express appreciation for support shown to President John Dramani Mahama in the campaign leading to the United Nations’ declaration that slavery is the worst form of crime against humanity.
She assured the Commission that Ghana stands ready with the necessary infrastructure, hospitality, security and organizational capacity to deliver a successful and memorable meeting, and called on all Member States to support Ghana’s bid.
A promotional video showcasing Ghana’s tourism offerings was presented to delegates as part of the invitation.
The 70th UN Tourism Commission for Africa is expected to be one of the biggest tourism policy gatherings on the continent when it convenes in Ghana in 2027.
