Citizens’ Coalition Notifies Police Service About Picketing At A-G Office

Citizens’ Coalition, a coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has notified the Ghana Police Service about their decision to picket at the office of the Auditor General.

The picketing will be in protest of the A-G’s failure to exercise his constitutional powers, according to the Coalition.

The protest has been scheduled for Monday, August 5, 2022.

The day has been tagged as “Red Monday”.

Specifically, the protesters will register their displeasure against the Auditor General’s “blatant refusal” to use his surcharge powers.

This came up after the A-G released some of the 2021 annual reports.

According to the Coalition, the A-G has refused to exercise the powers of surcharge and disallowance since 2019.

Meanwhile, Occupy Ghana has threatened to sue the A-G over the same issue.
