Civil Service Council Applauds Finance Ministry Over Economic Recovery Efforts

The Civil Service Council has lauded the Ministry of Finance for its role in restoring stability to the Ghanaian economy, describing the Ministry’s recent performance as a strong indication of effective public sector leadership and sound economic management.

The commendation came during a familiarization visit by members of the Council to the Ministry, where discussions focused on economic management, institutional challenges, staff development and inter-agency collaboration.

Chairman of the Council, Dr. Lawrence Akanweeke Kannae, praised officials of the Ministry for their resilience and commitment in navigating the country through economic difficulties.

He noted that the recent appreciation of the cedi against major international currencies and the gradual improvement in economic conditions were clear signs that the Ministry’s efforts were yielding positive results.

“You have demonstrated commitment and dedication at a very critical period for the country. The economy is responding positively, and many Ghanaians are beginning to regain confidence,” he stated.

Dr. Kannae encouraged staff of the Ministry to sustain the momentum and continue working with professionalism and integrity to support government’s broader economic transformation agenda.

According to him, the Council’s engagement with the Ministry forms part of ongoing visits to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to deepen collaboration, identify operational bottlenecks and strengthen service delivery across the Civil Service.

He stressed that achieving government’s resetting agenda would require stronger institutional coordination and adequate logistical support for state institutions. He therefore called on the Ministry of Finance to continue supporting other MDAs to enable them to function effectively.

The Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance expressed appreciation to the Council for its continuous support and recognition of the Ministry’s work.

He indicated that the Ministry greatly values the Council’s role in strengthening human resource capacity within the Civil Service, particularly through training and professional development programmes.

The Chief Director also highlighted the impact of recent fiscal reforms introduced by the Ministry, especially the implementation of the Commitment Authorization system, which he said has helped reduce waste and ensure prudent use of public resources.

He added that the leadership of the Minister for Finance has played a major role in steering the economy toward recovery and rebuilding confidence in public financial management.

Also addressing the gathering, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh underscored the need for continuous staff development to enable public servants meet global standards in policy formulation and economic negotiations.

He explained that institutions such as the Ministry of Finance require highly skilled personnel because of their regular engagements with international organizations, including the International Monetary Fund.

Dr. Aggrey-Darkoh described the Ministry as one of the key state institutions helping to shape a resilient and self-sustaining economy through strategic policy interventions grounded in national priorities.

He further noted that while progress has been made, government institutions must continue building the capacity needed to effectively support private sector growth and national development.

Issues relating to government flagship programmes and gender budgeting initiatives also featured prominently during the discussions.

Members of the Civil Service Council present at the meeting included Dr. Esther Ofei-Aboagye, Kwame A. Tenkorang, Justice Agnes M.A. Dordzie, Charles Kwame Dondieu and Dr. Evans A. Dzikum together with directors and heads of units of the Ministry.
