Asantehene Highlights African Youth’s Desire

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, says the demands of Africa’s youth are simple: skills, jobs, dignity and opportunities to stay and thrive at home.
With these readily available, the occupant of the Golden Stool noted that Africans would not risk their lives crossing deserts and oceans in search of better lives in Europe.
“They want skills, they want jobs, they want dignity, they want opportunity. They want to be able to stay at home and build meaningful lives rather than risk their lives crossing deserts in search of wealth elsewhere,” he said.
The Asantehene challenged Europe to help make these available through viable, mutually beneficial partnerships, noting that this would help address its migration challenges.
“If Europe wishes to address migration, it must help create opportunities in Africa. If Africa wishes to retain its youth, then African leaders must create conditions for enterprise, agriculture, manufacturing and decent work,” His Majesty said.
Otumfuo made this statement at the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów on May 29, 2026, while outlining the vast opportunities available in Africa.
“By the middle of this century, Africa will be home to one of the biggest, youngest populations in the world. This is not a burden. It is a blessing if we invest in it wisely,” he added.
