Asantehemaa Nana Yaa Akyaa II Undertakes Maiden State Sitting after Enstoolment

The Queen of the Asante Kingdom, Nana Yaa Akyaa II, has marked her first day following her enstoolment with a state sitting.
Her Majesty sat in state on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, to receive homage from traditional authorities, members of the general public, and subjects from across Asanteman.
The ceremony, held at the Manhyia Palace, marked her first public appearance following her enstoolment on July 6, 2026, as the 15th Asantehemaa.
Clad in white and red traditional apparel, the fifteenth Asantehemaa received greetings, prayers, and words of goodwill in a colourful display of Asante culture and tradition.
The event drew a large gathering of chiefs, queen mothers, and subjects who thronged the palace grounds to pay their respects to the new occupant of the Nyaako Kusiamoa stool.
The atmosphere was one of elation and marked by drumming and dancing in line with custom.
Among the dignitaries present were representatives from the security agencies, members of the clergy, government officials, and other stakeholders.
They used the occasion to congratulate Nana Yaa Akyaa II, extend their goodwill messages and pledge their support to her reign.
In brief remarks, some of the traditional leaders described the enstoolment of Nana Yaa Akyaa II as a new chapter for the Asante Kingdom and expressed optimism that her leadership would promote unity, development, and the preservation of Ashanti customs.
The sitting in state is one of the key traditional rites that formally introduces a newly enstooled chief or queen mother to the people and allows subjects to offer their allegiance.
Nana Yaa Akyaa II assumes the role at a time when Asanteman continues to play a central role in promoting cultural heritage, education, and social development in the Asante Region and beyond.
