Akwasidae: Kumasi Explores Development Partnership with Bobigny, France
The City of Kumasi is ready to partner with Bobigny, France, for mutual benefit in culture, education and economic development, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has said.
This was in response to the mission of a Bobigny delegation led by Deputy Mayor Nana Shodu, who joined the fifth Akwasidae festival of the year on July 19, 2026.
Welcoming them on behalf of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, Hon Boadi described Kumasi as ‘where Ghana happens’, ‘cultural citadel’ and ‘city where Ghana’s potential is unearthed.’
“On behalf of His Majesty and the good people of Asanteman, we extend our warmest welcome to you and France…The city of Kumasi is ever ready to partner with your city for mutual benefit,” he said.
The French delegation’s visit formed part of an immersion trip organised with support from UNESCO Network and the Bomoyi Association, a non-profit organisation.
Madam Shodu said the visit represented more than a simple trip for the young people accompanying her.
“It is a true immersion in Asante culture and with people proud of their history, traditions and values in our motherland. We have come to discover, learn, listen and form bonds. We are convinced that understanding one another is the first step toward lasting friendship.”
She described the audience with the Asantehene as a tremendous and unforgettable privilege, and expressed hope that the meeting would mark the beginning of formal cooperation between Bobigny and Kumasi.
“I hope this meeting will deeply forge partnerships and collaboration between Ghana and France. We wish to develop cultural and educational exchanges as well as economic ties so that our youth and population can learn from one another,” she added.
“I hope this day marks the first chapter of a story between Ghana and France.”
