Afro Nation Nigeria Cancelled

International music festival Afro Nation Nigeria will no longer be taking place per plans, organisers have announced.

The event which would have made history as the second on African soil was cancelled on October 31 after organisers realized the quality the event deserved was not feasible.

A statement released by the organisers read, “Unfortunately the Afro Nation Nigeria festival in Lagos will now not be taking place. As event organisers, we hold ourselves to extremely high standards and it has become clear to us that it is currently not possible to deliver a show that is of the quality that Nigeria deserves in December 2023.

“…. We have put on incredible shows in Portugal, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Miami and Detroit but Nigeria holds a special place in our hearts, so we are heartbroken not to be able to celebrate with you this year. Please know we are 100% committed to creating an Afro Nation show in Lagos that we can all be proud of.”

They, therefore, have pledged to refund the cost of tickets including booking fees.

“Ticket buyers do not need to do anything but will receive an email with information outlining the refund process.”

The festival is organized by Live Nation, Event Horizon, Smade Entertainment, and Memories of Tomorrow to provide a platform for artistes to connect with fans across the world.

The festival was founded in 2019 to bring together the best African artistes in Afrobeats, Hip hop, RnB, Dancehall, Amapiano, Afro House and more.

The two-day festival had earlier unveiled Burna Boy, J Hus, Flavour, Seyi Vibez, and Black Sherif as headline artistes with the event initially set to take place at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos on December 19 and 20.

The festival was held at the Black Star Square in Ghana in 2022.
