A/R: GRA Initiates Investigation Into Alleged Extortion By Customs Division Task Force
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) says an investigation has been launched into allegations of extortion by a task force of the Customs Division in the Ashanti Region.
The officers reportedly demanded an “unjustified” payment from an importer after intercepting containers they claimed were under-valued.
“GRA wishes to inform its stakeholders, especially traders and importers, that it takes these allegations seriously and has commenced an internal investigation into the matter to ascertain the facts.”
It noted that the general public will be informed about the outcome as soon as it is concluded.
Encouraging stakeholders and the general public to report malpractices by its officials, the Authority affirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity of its staff and transparency in its operations to ensure accountability and fairness.
