3 Suspects Arrested Over Tarkwa Gold-Buying Shop Robbery

Three persons are in the grips of the police in the Western region for their alleged involvement in a robbery incident at a gold-buying shop in Tarkwa last Tuesday.

The suspects have been identified as Ezekiel Stephen Oghenekaro, Samuel Amoashie and Fatawu Awudu.


CCTV footage captured six suspects entering the shop, conducting the robbery operation and leaving the venue.

The six-minute video footage captured the suspects taking out their guns hidden in a backpack and ordering their four victims to lie on the ground inside the shop.

They then scavenged the whole place as well as bags and pockets of their victims for goods.

They left with a sack believed to contain money belonging to shop and phones.


According to a statement from the police, an operation was launched immediately to arrest them.

The three arrested suspects were found in a bush around Benso and Esuosu townships, the police noted.

“The suspects, Ezekiel Stephen Oghenekaro, Samuel Amoashie and Fatawu Awudu together with three other suspects armed with weapons attacked the gold buying shop on 18th April 2023, and made away with an unspecified amount of money,” the statement said.

“A search conducted on them in the bush led to the retrieval of three motorbikes and a sack fully loaded with an unspecified amount of money believed to be the booty from their attack on the shop.”


They were arraigned before the Tarkwa District Court on 21st April 2023 and got remanded into lawful custody to re-appear on 3rd May, 2023.

Meanwhile, the police have assured that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.

“Police intelligence operation is currently ongoing to get the remaining gang members arrested to face justice and we shall surely get them.”
