World Cup: GFA ExCo’s Achee Refutes Sports Minister’s Claims on Tickets

A member of the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and chairman of the Black Starlets Management Committee, Frederick Owusu Acheampong, popularly known as Achee, has refuted certain claims regarding tickets for Black Stars World Cup matches.

The Black Stars of Ghana, at their fifth World Cup appearance, have been placed in group L, which comprises Panama, Croatia and England.

The Black Stars begin their opening game at the BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, against the Red Tide of Panama and proceed to play at Foxborough, Massachusetts, in the United States against the Three Lions of England.

They will finally draw the curtains down at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia against the Checkered Ones of Croatia.

The organisers have announced the following estimated ticket prices for Black Stars matches: Category 1 – $250–$350; Category 2 – $150–$250; Category 3 (most affordable standard seats) – $80–$150; and hospitality packages starting from $1,000.

Honourable Kofi Eddie Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation, addressed growing public concerns about ticket access for Black Stars supporters, stating that the government’s role is limited to facilitating fan participation rather than selling tickets through unofficial channels.

Achee, who is also a sports pundit on Kessben TV/Radio, clarified the ticket procurement process involving FIFA, participating countries, and their supporters, particularly with regard to Ghana’s Black Stars.

He explained the arrangement, noting that free tickets are managed by the Ministry of Sports.

“For the record, I handle the procurement of tickets from FIFA through the GFA for Ghanaian supporters. Free tickets are managed separately by the Ministry of Sports and the government.”
