Carlos Queiroz Pleased with Players’ Adherence to Strategy Against Wales

The Portuguese football manager, Carlos Manuel Brito Leal de Queiroz, sat in the Black Stars’ dugout for the first time since his appointment.

The Portuguese international was handed a four-month assignment to manage the Black Stars after his appointment on the 13th of April, 2026, and is mandated to lead the Black Stars out of the group stage in the Mundial.

Black Stars head coach, Carlos Queiroz, came up with a formation in a 4-4-1-1 with Ati-Zigi being the shot-stopper and Jordan Ayew being the leading marksman for Black Stars in Cardiff City Stadium.

Queiroz, who won the Supercopa de España with Real Madrid in 2003, made 10 substitutions before the end of the friendly against the Dragons of Wales and gave chances to returnee Baba Rahman and Caleb Yirenkyi in his preferred midfield role instead of the right-back duties.

Queiroz, in an interview at the match presser after a draw with Wales, elaborated on the minimal time for the team to get prepared ahead of the summer football festival in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

“We received nine players just yesterday, who had arrived from London; they had conditions with their passports. We have been training two times daily with nine to eleven players since we converged in camp. Only yesterday, we had one training session, and we assembled the team. And I asked them to make a couple of simple things,” Queiroz revealed.

He stated, “The players listened to my instructions, to my game plan. They really brilliantly follow the respect of the game plan; they just follow the basic rules, calm and confident. We have a good starting point.”

The Black Stars of Ghana have reportedly departed the United Kingdom and are heading towards their assigned camp base, Bryant University, Boston.
