W/R: Six Arrested After Fatal Shooting at Galamsey Site in Gwira Ampansie

The Western Regional Police Command has arrested six people in connection with a fatal shooting at a mining site at Gwira Ampansie in the Nema East District.

The deceased, 45-year-old Angu Mensah, who was the Abusuapanyi of Gwira Ampansie, was shot in the chest during a misunderstanding at the site on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Police said the incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. when a dispute broke out between the deceased and some individuals at the mining site.

According to preliminary investigations, one Alfred Sadick, alias Strongman, allegedly shot Mensah.

Officers from Axim and the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate responded to a distress call at about 1:20 p.m. and proceeded to the scene. Six suspects have since been taken into custody to assist with investigations.

They include three Ghanaians and three Chinese nationals: Hamza Abubakar, 36; Hamidu Seidu, 42; Francis Biewose, 26; Bai Yaozheng, 36; Liu Gang, 43; and Wen Xien Wen, 45.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Axim Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Police said efforts are underway to arrest Alfred Sadick, alias Strongman, who remains at large.

The Western Regional Police Command is appealing to the public to provide credible information on the whereabouts of the suspect.
