W/R: 12 Illegal Miners Remanded Into Prison Custody
The Takoradi Harbour Area Circuit Court ‘A’ has remanded 12 illegal miners into prison custody at Sekondi following their arrest.
The accused persons are Lord Yankey, Caleb Adu Kwaw, Stephen Agyei, Ebenezer Barnes, Mathew Somagevi, Paa Grant, Bashiru Kaviru, Joseph Borney, Aminu Issah, Kofi Sogah, Albert Normah, Robert Mensah.
They will reappear on Tuesday, July 8, 2025.
They were arrested at Tumetu near Princess Town in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.
“Ten of the accused persons were arrested at a palm plantation, while two (2) others were arrested at the Elluabo Chavene Ghana Rubber Estate Limited (GREL) plantation, in a coordinated police intelligence-led operation within the Ahanta West Municipality,” a police statement reported.
In addition to the arrest, the police retrieved four water-pumping machines, one tricycle with registration number M-20-WR 1045, and two motorbikes.
All twelve accused persons are said to have admitted to the offence during police interrogations.
