23 Illegal Miners Apprehended at Wassa Akropong

Coordinate police operations have led to the arrest of 23 illegal miners in the Wassa Akropong District of the Western Region.

The suspects were rounded up during operations along the Wassa Akropong–Japa–Dadieso road.

A statement by the police on Sunday said, “The team also extended operations to the Obeng Mining Group site at Wassa Japa, where sixty-four (64) changfan machines were disabled.”

In a further operation at Wassa Dominase by officers on an illegal mining site near the Goil and Energy Oil filling stations along the Agona Amenfi–Gyedua Kesse Junction road, seven changfan machines and washing boards were disabled while three water-pumping machines and one pickaxe were retrieved.

Acting on intelligence in another operation in Asankrangwa, the police said they retrieved three water-pumping machines and four motorbikes near a 1D1F building along the Asankra Saah–Asankra Kwabeng road.

“All suspects are in custody assisting with ongoing investigations.”
