Two Nigerians Arrested Over Murder of Compatriot in Tamale

The police have arrested two Nigerian nationals in connection with the murder of a 36-year-old compatriot, Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze.
The body of the deceased was found in his residence at Sanzirigu in Tamale on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The suspects have been identified as Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa.
Police said preliminary investigations established that the deceased, his wife Peace Uzorchuku, the two suspects and another Nigerian national, Godwin Nwafor, were all residing together in a three-bedroom apartment at Sanzirigu.
The deceased was found lying motionless in a pool of blood in his bedroom.
A team of investigators who visited the scene found that Mr Eze had sustained a deep cut wound to the forehead and had a towel stuffed in his mouth. The room had also been ransacked.
During the crime scene examination, officers recovered a wooden pestle suspected to have been used in the attack, along with other items for forensic analysis.
The body was conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where a medical officer confirmed the death before it was deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Arrest
Through intelligence-led operations, Police intercepted and arrested the two suspects at Tatale on the same day as they attempted to flee into Togo through the Tatale route.
They were subsequently handed over to the Tamale District CID to assist with investigations.
In the course of interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted conspiring to murder the deceased, claiming he had been withholding proceeds from internet fraud activities they were involved in.
A search conducted after their arrest led to the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen from the deceased’s room, including multiple mobile phones, laptop computers, a tablet, jewellery, clothing, wristwatches, personal documents and other valuables.
All the items have been retained as exhibits to support the ongoing investigations.
The Northern Regional Police Command said the suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, July 13, 2026, to facilitate further investigations.
The Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all persons involved in the crime are brought to justice and has urged the public to continue providing credible information to support the fight against crime.
