Gov’t Rolls Out Support for Atebubu-Amantin Maize and Bean Farmers After Marketing Challenges

The government says it is implementing measures to support maize and bean farmers in the Atebubu-Amantin District following marketing difficulties they faced last year.
The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. John Dumelo, made this known to Parliament on Tuesday while responding to questions on the floor of the House.
The Deputy Minister and MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon said the Ministry had commenced nationwide distribution of garden inputs for the 2026 major cropping season to support agricultural production across the country.
“The Ministry is working closely with the National Food Buffer Stock Company to strengthen the purchase and marketing of locally produced grain,” he stated.
Mr Dumelo added that the Ministry has directed the National Food Buffer Stock Company, NAFCO, to intensify the purchase of surplus maize, rice, and soya beans from farmers.
According to him, the move is intended to address marketing difficulties and provide a ready market for farmers’ produce.
He said the interventions are expected to stabilise prices, improve farmers’ incomes, and strengthen Ghana’s food security.
