Trinidad & Tobago PM Heads For Asantehene Anniversary Climax

The Prime Minister for Trinidad and Tobago, Dr the Hon, Keith Rowley will be the Guest of Honour at the Akwasidae Festival which climaxes the 25th Anniversary of the King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He set out for Ghana on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.

He is accompanied by his wife, Mrs Sharon Rowley and a delegation which includes the Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Senator the Hon. Dr Amery Browne.

A part of a statement released by the Office of the Prime Minister read, “Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Keith Rowley will travel to London today (Tuesday 07th May, 2024) en route to Ghana where he will be the special guest of honour at the celebration of His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, The Asantehene’s 25th-year of ascension to the Golden Stool and reign as the King of Asante.”

As part of his trip to Ghana, he will meet President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the statement confirmed.

The relations between Dr Rowley and the King dates back to 2020 when the former visited Ghana for the Independence Day Celebration in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

During his stay in Kumasi, Otumfuo treated him to first-class reception.

The PM extended an invitation to the King for a State visit; however, it was delayed by the invasion of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was not until August 2023 when His Majesty made the trip to the island country upon a follow-up through the High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Windell Vincent Carlton De Landro.

Otumfuo during his trip graced the Emancipation Day celebrations of the country.

The climax of the Silver Jubilee celebration of Otumfuo will take place on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
