Trades Minister Calls for Removal of Non-Tariff Barriers in Morocco Trade Talks

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has called for the removal of non-tariff barriers to boost trade flows between Ghana and Morocco.
She made the call during a strategic three-day working visit to Morocco, which began on Monday, May 4, 2026.
As part of the visit, Hon. Ofosu-Adjare held bilateral talks with Morocco’s Minister of Investments, Convergence and Public Policy Evaluation, Hon. Karim Zidane.
She commended Morocco’s progress in advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and stressed that eliminating non-tariff barriers would facilitate smoother trade.
“Removing these barriers is critical if we are to fully harness the benefits of AfCFTA and grow intra-African trade,” she said.
The Minister also underscored Ghana’s commitment to stronger economic ties with Morocco, with a focus on the automobile and agro-processing sectors.
Pitching Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy
Hon. Ofosu-Adjare also highlighted Ghana’s flagship 24-Hour Economy policy as a key driver for industrial growth and investor attraction.
She briefed Moroccan officials on Ghana’s revised GIPC investment law, which she said enhances incentives and creates a more enabling environment for foreign investors.
Morocco Pushes for Trade Balance
In response, Hon. Zidane referenced the 2017 visit of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Ghana as a turning point in bilateral relations.
He urged Ghana to increase its export volumes to Morocco to address the current trade imbalance.
To accelerate partnerships, he proposed the urgent organisation of a Business and Investment Forum in Ghana.
