Telecel Ghana Reacts to ¢2 Million Lawsuit By Onion Seller

Telecommunication company, Telecel Ghana, is reviewing details of a Gh¢2 million lawsuit brought against it by a Makola onion vendor.

It is working towards establishing the facts behind the claims, the company said in a brief statement cited by CNR.

“We are currently reviewing the details of this claim to establish the facts,” Telecel noted, adding: “We appreciate the public’s understanding as this process runs its course.”

The complainant, who identifies herself as Faustina Djagbele Abbey, has dragged the company to court alleging her image was used in a commercial without her permission or consent.

This, her lawyer said, infringes on her privacy and personal liberties under Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), which mandates consent before processing personal data for commercial purposes.

She says the situation has taken an emotional toll and strained her relationships, with some people mistakenly believing she’s profited from her association with the telecom company.
