Teacher Recruitment Portal Closed after Receiving Over 40,000 Applications
The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the closure of the teacher application portal after receiving 40,000 applications from 2023, 2024, and 2025 graduate cohorts.
At a presser on April 14, 2026, he said the Ghana Education Service (GES) instructively closed the portal to avoid a stampede of numbers.
“If the resources were available, we should be employing up to 50, 000 teachers across the country, but owing to legitimate constraints, we are unable to do that.”
The Ministry of Education has clearance to employ 7,000 new teachers with a degree and diplomas.
With over 40,000 applications lying on its table, the Ministry intends to screen and assess each application to get the needed threshold.
“Those who were fortunate will be clinically examined and assessed for their readiness, competence and qualification and the best 7000 of the over 40,000 applicants.”
The portal was opened on April 10, 2026.
