Prof Gyampo Recounts How Omane Boamah Saved His Son’s Life

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Prof Ransford Gyampo, has paid tribute to the late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, recalling how he saved his son’s life 18 years ago.
According to him, six months after the birth of his son, he developed a complication that drained his hope of survival.
However, after encountering Dr Omane Boamah, hope was revived and his son lived.
In a Facebook post, he wrote, “Six months after birth, my son was rushed to the hospital and the condition was such that I prepared my mind for his death. I was invigilating in an exam hall when I was called to rush to the hospital because my son was sick, and this was some 18 year ago. On my way to the hospital I prayed that God will grant my son eternal rest because I knew my boy was going to die.
“But when I reach the hospital, Dr Omane Boamah who happened to be the medical doctor taking care of my son at the 37 Military Hospital assured me that, as long as God lives and as long as he remains a professional medical officer, my son will not die.”
He said his son is 18 years now.
The political science lecturer also recollected the cherished memories of his last moments with the late Minister who died alongside seven others in an helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofrom in the Ashanti Region.
“Only last week, I interacted with Omane Boamah at the Flag Staff house where he told me more about a theory of communication he and others like James Agyenim Boateng and Stan Dogbe propounded ,called ‘Missionizing’. Only yesterday ,I spoke with him on phone.”
For the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala, who also perished in the crash, Gyampo remembers for his humility, hard work and resilience in his professional relationship with his teachers while reading his PhD.
“…My PhD student who recently produced one of the best dissertations in our department.”
“This is painful. Condolences to the wives and children; condolences to President Mahama and condolences to the Ghanaian people .”
