Barima Acheampong Sarpong II Officially Ascends Asaamang Stool

Barima Acheampong Sarpong II, Asaamanghene, has officially assumed office as Chief of Asaamang.

This followed his oath of allegiance sworn on August 10, 2026, before the Kumasi Traditional Council, after he was presented by Nana Asamoah Gyamfi Sekyere.

Unlike with other chiefs, Otumfuo did not permit councils of Nananom to be present prior to the oath-taking.

The only counsel given came from the Asantehene.

“He is my uncle’s (Nsutahene) younger brother. No one can advise him. What my uncle has said ends it all.”

In his counsel, Otumfuo urged him to exercise humility and accord Nsutahene the needed respect as the eldest.

His Majesty made reference to his predecessors in making the point.

“Your predecessors initially humbled themselves to Nsutahene but later rebelled against him. If you have anything to tell me, say it through Nsuta. Your immediate predecessor bypassed this protocol because he thought he had the same privilege as an uncle. Kokofu is fond of doing the same. Take note of it.”

Meanwhile, Otumfuo called for the unity of the brothers in the service to the Golden Stool.

Taking the sword, Asaamanghene pledged his full commitment to the service of the Golden Stool and its occupant.
