Otumfuo Constitutes Committee to Probe Wirempe Stool Dispute

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has constituted a four-member committee to investigate a dispute surrounding the Wirempe stool.

The committee is made up of Akokofehene, Dadiesoabahene, Drobonsohene and Otumfuo Kyeame Worae.

The committee was formed on August 10, 2026, during a Kumasi Traditional Council meeting to look into claims to the stool by three different individuals who have invoked the Great Oath.

His Majesty charged the committee to seek the roots of the stool and the household for which it was created.

Background
The Wirempe male stool has been vacant since September 2024, when Nana Opia Mensah II, Wirempehene, was destooled for desecrating and abusing the Great Oath (Ntamkɛseɛ).

The dispute is between Kofi Anin, who was on August 3 presented before KTC as the official family head, Opanin Nketia, who initially presented himself as Family head and one other individual who claims neither of the two is related to the stool.
